THE DREW GILPIN FAUST ALLY AWARD

The Drew Gilpin Faust Ally Award is presented in honor of the 28th President of Harvard University, historian, and former dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Dr. Drew Gilpin Faust embodies the three core elements of this award. Her efforts to include, support, and honor Harvard veterans and ROTC cadets helped to revitalize the relationship between Harvard University and the U.S. military. Following the repeal of the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" law in December 2010, Dr. Faust and Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, (Harvard JD '76), signed an agreement formally returning the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program to the Harvard College campus in 2011, after almost 40 years. Re-establishment of the Army and Air Force programs followed. During her tenure as University President, Dr. Faust spoke at and supported countless veteran events, kicked off the Harvard Veterans History Project, and sanctioned many veterans and military focused library and archive events. She retired as President of Harvard University in June 2018 and retains her title as a professor of history at Harvard.
