ROTC Alumni Award

This award is presented annually to one or two Harvard cadets or midshipmen in each ROTC unit. Recipients of these awards must have made significant contributions to the status of ROTC at Harvard, to the welfare of Harvard ROTC cadets or midshipmen, or to the leadership of the intercollegiate ROTC units at MIT. Academic standing and involvement in athletics and other extracurricular activities may also be considered in the selection of recipients. Candidates are recommended by the Professor of Military Science, the Professor of Naval Science, and the Professor of Aerospace Studies in their respective units and approved by the Directors.

ROTC AVIATION AWARD

This award is presented annually to one Harvard cadet or midshipman in the senior class who plans to enter military aviation as a pilot or navigator or in another flight-related specialty. The recipient of this award must have (1) demonstrated a substantial interest in aviation, for example, by initiation of flight training at his or her own expense, (2) met the physical and academic criteria for acceptance into military pilot or navigator training or other flight-related training, including successful completion of the qualifying test required by the service, if any, and (3) demonstrated potential for leadership. The Professor of Military Science, the Professor of Naval Science, and the Professor of Aerospace Studies may each nominate one candidate from the senior class in their respective units and submit to the Directors a one-page description of the candidate's qualifications. Each candidate may submit to the Directors a one-page statement describing his or her interest in aviation and objectives in military aviation. The Directors will select the recipient. The Directors may choose not to present the award if in their judgment there is no qualified candidate in the senior class.
